China's apple industry

Abstract： China’s apple industry produces over 5O million tons annually， accounting for more than 55% of global output， thus holding a significant scale advantage. However， quality improvement remains constrained by several botlenecks： the breeding system lags behind， with varietal structures misaligned with consumer upgrades; orchard management relies heavily on manual labor with insuffcient mechanization; and post-harvest handling and processing are underdeveloped， resulting in poor storability，low processing rates，and a short value chain.The existing core problems and in-depth challenges from the aspects of breeding innovation， cultivation techniques and post-harvest processing were sorted out. The pathways including varietal optimization， adoption of green and smart cultivation， and enhancement of post-harvest handling and high-value utilization were put forward.
