Abstract:The structure and technical requirements of stering axle housing castings were analyzed to formulate an initial casting process scheme.Thecasting method was determined,the pouring positionand parting surface were selected,thesandcoreand movable block were designed,the cross-sectional areas ofeachunit inthe pouring system werecalculated.Numerical simulation technologywas used to simulate the filingand solidification process.It was found that the shrinkage defects emerged inthe isolated liquid-phaseregion onboth sidesofthe casting,while the concave defects occurred at the top cone due to liquid shrinkage. Based on the analysis results,the castingprocess was optimizedby adding risers.The feasibilityofthe optimized scheme was verified through numerical simulation and cuting tests.The results show that the casting defects are effectively eliminated and the casting quality is ensured by this optimized process,which can provide valuable experience for the production and process optimization of similar parts.
