Abstract:The scientific eutrophication evaluation method is significant to the assessment, management and restoration of coastal eutrophication. Because of the lack of biological indicators in the previous eutrophication evaluation for Xiangshan Bay,we used the Trophic Index (TRIX) to analyze the temporal and spatial variation in the eutrophication status and associated controlling factors,based on the survey results of four cruises in January (winter),April (spring), July (summer)and October (autumn) in 2015. The results showed that eutrophication in Xiangshan Bay was severe in 2O15,with TRIX value >5 for 89% of the total samples,indicating eutrophic or extremely eutrophic conditions. The eutrophication level was higher in the upper than in the lower bay. Among all seasons,the eutrophication level was the highest in summer. The high value of chlorophyll a in the upper bay in winter may be affected by the thermal discharge from the power plant. This study suggests that the TRIX effectively reflects the seasonal and spatial variation in eutrophication symptoms in the Xiangshan Bay,which can be used for the practical requirements of refined management of coastal eutrophication.
