Abstract：Mr. Yu Youren， an elder scholar of the Republic of China period， visited the Mogao Grottoes at Dunhuang and the Yulin Grottoes at Guazhou in 1941. His groundbreaking role in the protection and research of Dunhuang cultural relics is widely known in the field of Dunhuang studies. In addition， some records of his travels to the area can help scholars to better understand this complicated period of history.
