Anti-Loosening Performance of Insert Lock Nuts under Vibration Environment

Abstract : This paper is to study the failure behavior of insert nuts under diferent vibration loads (lateral and axial). In order to evaluate the anti-loosening performance of insert locknuts and common nuts under transverse alternating load, weconduct a comprehensive analysis of the behaviour ofaxial force atenuation ofbolts and the response curves of connecting structures to reveal the loosening failure mechanism ofinsert nuts. We investigate the role of insert locknuts on improving the service life of the coupling structure by changing different axial alternating load amplitudes.Then,combining macro and micro analysis methods,damage analysis is conducted on the damage area. The results show that under transverse alternating loads,the axial force of the insert locknuts decreases slowly,indicating good loosening resistance.Under axial alternating load,insert nuts can relieve the stress concentration phenomenon of the whole bolt, improve the stressdistribution of the whole nut, and reduce the damage caused by micromotion wearon the threads of non-inserted parts.The wear mechanisms include fatigue wear, oxidative wear,adhesive wear and abrasive wear.
