Dynamic calculation of folding and deployment of inflatable aerodynamic decelerator considering effect of high-altitude environment

Abstract: To study the folding and deployment process of the inflatable aerodynamic decelerator in the working conditions of high altitude environment, taking the US IRVE-3 aircraft as a typical example,the folding model for simulating deployment process is established,the strap structure is modeled by membrane element,and the control volume and the LS-DYNA software are employed for fluid-solid coupling dynamics computation. In the dynamic analysis,the influence of the ground and high altitude environment on the deployment process is investigated,and the mechanism analysis is made.The computational results show that the proposed model can effectively simulate the folding and deployment process,and the deployment time, airbag volume and internal pressure change of the inflatable aerodynamic decelerator will be significantly influenced by high altitude environment.
