Abstract:Inordertoefectivelypredictandcontroltheconsequencesoffuel-airmixtureexplosions inenclosedspacesand therebyreduce the casualties and property losses caused byaccidents,the relationship betweenthe explosive overpressure characteristics of fuel-air mixturesand the spatial scaleof explosions was investigated. Closed square pipes with varying length-diameterratios,volumes,and lengths wereused to examine theimpactoffuel-air mixtureexplosion overpressure characteristicsby keepingtheinitialoilandgasconcentration,ignitionposition,andignitionenergyconstant.The experimental resultsshow that therate ofoverpressre rise goes through three stages: arapid increase period,a continuous oscilltionperod,ndeuatiotiatiopod,icvealstedamiclatiosptweeactioatedat loss.Thereduceof the nozleareaand theincreaseofthe inteal surface area ofthe pipelinecanboth leadto the decrease of the maximumoverpresure,theaverage overpressreriserate,the maximumoverpressreriserate,and theexplosionpower. Thefurther analysisof the experimentalresults reveals that thechange in the nozzlearea willdirectlyafect theflame front area and reactionrate,with a more direct and significant impact onthe maximumoverpressre.Thechanges inthe iner surface area have a relatively indirect effect on themaximum overpressure byregulating energy transferand heat loss. Additionallypipelinelength isacrucial factoraectingthetimetoreach the maximumoverpressure.The increaseof the pipeline length notonly increases the heatlossbut alsodelays thesuperpositiontime pointof thereflected waveand the incident wave,with the energy of the reflected wave undergoing relative attenuation.
