Flexural Properties and Toughness Performance of Basalt Fiber Reinforced Concrete

【Abstract】:Toinvestigatethe variationand mechanismofflexural propertiesand toughness ofbasalt fberreinforcedconcrete,basalt fibers with lengths of12 mm,18 mm and 24 mm were incorporated into concrete at volume fractions of 0.1% 0.15% , 0.2% , 0.25% and 0.3% using volumetric addition method.The results showed that the 18 mm basalt fiber demonstrated the most significant improvement in the flexural strength of concrete,with enhancement proportional to the fiber content.The improvementof the12 mm fiber on the flexural strength is close to that of the 18 mm fiber.The24 mm fiber at 0.1% content has a minor effect on flexural strength.With theincrease of dosage,theenhancement offlexural strength exhibits fluctuating changes.The flexural stiffness of concrete materials increases with increasing fiberlength.The18mmfiberprovides the best overall enhancement in the flexural toughnessofconcrete.The initial flexural toughness index,Re,p,is proportional to the amount of basalt fiber content,showing amarked increase .The 12 mm fiber has a significant increase inthe improvement of the flexural toughness within the dosage range of 0.1% ~0.25%.However,the enhancement effect slowsdownat 0.3% content,whichisessentiallyequivalent tothatat 0.25% . Theflexural toughnessof 24mm fiber reinforced concrete shows a fluctuating change,with the enhancement effect showing intermittent decreases.The correlation between the increasing trendand the fiber content is noticeably influenced by the fiber length.The optimumimprovement in flexural toughness occurs at 0.25% :
