Abstract: ObjectiveThis study aimed to analyze the prophage in101 strains of Bordetella bronchiseptica(Bb). MethodsMolecular typing of each Bb strain was carredoutusing theMLSTtool.The prophages in Bb strains were analyzed by the PHASTEST tool. The resistance genes and virulence genes Were analyzed in the CARD or VFDB database.Genomic characterization and evolutionary analysis were conducted for identified prophages.Results The 101 Bb strains were categorized into 37 sequence types (STs)and primarily originate from humans,pigs,and horses in the US, China,Denmark,and Hungary. The genomic length of Bb was concentrated in 4.6~6.0Mb ,and the GC content was 67.5%~69.0% . All of Bb strains carried prophages.A total of 270 prophages were detected, 51 of which were intact prophages. The proportion of prophages in the Bb genome was only 0.1067%~1.069% . The analysis of resistance genes and virulence genes showed that 3O strains of Bb carried9 types of resistance genes,mainly sulfonamide and tetracycline resistance genes.There were two prophages that carried the virulence factor of the type III secretion system (T3SS).ConclusionProphages,which donotcontribute to the horizontal transferofresistance genes inBb,are frequentlycarriedbyBband may increase the pathogenicityof theBbby making the hostbacterium more virulent.
