Study on the Effect of Quorum Sensing Regulatory Genes on the Biological Phenotype ofVibrio alginolyticus

Abstract: ObjectiveVibrio alginolyticus is a conditional pathogen widely distributed in the marine environment,and its high pathogenicity poses a serious threat to the aquaculture industry. The purpose of this study was to investigate the regulation of the quorum sensing (QS)system on the biological phenotype of Vibrio alginolyticus ZVA. MethodsThe QS regulatory gene mutants △hapR and △luxO were constructed by homologous recombination technology.The significance of the QS system inthe biologicalphenotypic regulation network of Vibrio alginolyticus wasclarifed by examining the traits ofcolonymorphology,growth curve,biofilm formation,motility and phage plaque production rate. ResultsUnder high bacterial density circumstances, the QS system significantly reduced Vibrioalginolyticus'sswimming and swarming motilityand variablycontrolled its phage sensitivitybut it had no discernible impact on the production of biofilms Conclusion The QS system profoundly affects the ecologicaladaptabilityandpotential pathogenicityof Vibrioalginolyticus byregulatingbacterial motilityand phage sensitivity.Theresults of thisstudy provide anew theoretical basis for the preventionand control strategiesof Vibrio alginolyticus.
