[Abstract]ObjectiveTo explore the influence of respiratory muscle training combined with task-oriented training on the balanceand gait functions in elderly patients with post-stroke hemiplegia.MethodsA total of 252 elderly patients with post-stroke hemiplegia meeting the inclusion criteria were prospectively enroled in our study. They were randomly divided into a combination group（receiving respiratory muscle training combined with taskoriented training），and a control group（receiving task-oriented training），with 126 cases in each group.Both groups of patients were trained for 8 weeks.The Berg balance scale，six-minute walk test （6MWT），National Institutesof Health stroke scale（NIHSS），and stroke-specific quality of life scale（SS-QOL）were separately used to asess the balance and gait functions，and qualityof lifeof these patients beforeand after treatment. ResultsBefore treatment，there were no statistically significant diferences in Berg score，6MWT distance，and NIHSS and SS-QOL scores of the elderly patients with post-stroke hemiplegia between the combination group and the control group （all P>0.05 ）.After treatment，the Berg score，6MWT distance，and SS-QOL score in the combination group were significantly higherthan thoseof the control group，while the NIHSS score was significantly lower than that of the control group （all P<0.01 ）.ConclusionRespiratory muscle training combined with taskoriented training could efectively enhance the balance and gait functions of elderly patients with post-stroke hemiplegia，efectively improve patients’ quality of life，and is beneficial for the prognosis improvement.
