Abstract: Tectonic tremors are a type of slow earthquake that primarily occurs at the plate interface within the lower continental crust and upper mantle transition zone of the circum-Pacific subduction zone. The spatiotemporal distribution of tectonic tremors effectively characterizes the dynamic processes of plate subduction. Integrated studies from the fields of geodesy and seismology reveal spatiotemporal correlations among tectonic tremors, low-frequency earthquakes, and short-term slow slip events in certain regions. Recent tectonic tremor has been detected along major strike-slip faults in North America, subduction zones, and other major faults along the Alpine一Himalayan colision belt. In addition to spontaneous tectonic tremors, triggered tremors induced by various forms of stress perturbations-most notably by teleseismic surface waves-have been observed. Triggered tremors not only aid in inferng the presence of tectonic tremors in a study area but also provide critical constraints on the behavior and mechanisms of tectonic tremors. To advance the understanding of tremor research, this paper reviews the research progress in tectonic and triggered tremor studies, covering four key aspects: fundamental concepts, physical mechanisms, observational advances, and detection and location methods. The findings aim to provide a reference for con ducting relevant research and optimizing observational strategies in China.
