Study on the Influence of Composition and Heat Treatment on the Strength-Hardness Relationship of Squeeze Cast Al-8Si Alloy Series

Abstract:To investigate the effects of Mg and Cu element content and heat treatment processes on the relationship between tensile strength andBrinell hardness of squeeze cast Al-8Si aloys,acomprehensiveanalysis method isproposed.This method combines factorssuchasthehardening trendof thematerial’stensilestress-strain curveand the fracture locationonthecurvetoanalyzethetensile strength-Brinell hardness relationship while excluding anomalous data.Theresults indicate that,firstly,increasing thecontent of strengthening elements (e.g.,Mg andCu)inthealuminumaloyeffctivelyimprovestheyield-to-tensilestrengthratioofthealloyinas-cast,solutiontreated,aged,ndT6states,resultinginigh-yield-strengthaluminumaloys.SecondlyT6treatmentachievesthe mostsignificantimprovementintheyieldstrengthof thealuminumalloystudied,followedbyBrinellhardness,withthe leastimprovementintensilestrength.Inaddition,forthe twostudiedaluminumaloysunderdiferent T6 treatment parameters,Ally#1exhibitsayield-to-tensilestrengthratioofO.78toO.79,andAlloy#2showsaratioof0.89 to 0.91,indicatinggood consistency.However,thestrength-to-hardnessandyield-to-hardnessratiosof thetwoallys showconsiderable variability.Underdiferent T6 treatment parameters,Alloy #1's strength-to-hardnessand yield-tohardnessratios range from 2.98 to 3.29and2.37 to 2.58,respectivelywhile Ally #2'scorresponding ratios range from 2.77 to 2.88 and 2.47 to 2.57.
