Abstract:To effectively predict and control the deformation of automobileengine hoods during the coating baking process,a combined approachof theoretical analysisand simulation modeling isemployed to investigate the mechanismsandfailuremodesof enginehood baking deformation.Mechanical modelsbased on2typesof failure modes—instantaneous instabilityand energyrebalancing—under thermo-mechanical coupling efectsareestablished, and a deformation predictionmethod is proposed.Theresultsindicate that therelative displacementcaused by the diffrence in thermal expansion between theinnerandouter panels,which islocked byadhesive curing,is themain cause of deformation.Thedeveloped simulation modelachievesa prediction accuracy of86.9% in critical areas of the engine hood,enablingquantitative evaluationand optimizationguidance fortheengine hood’sresistance to baking deformation during the design phase.
