How Scientific and Technological Innovation Drives Regional Modernization： EvidencefromYangtzeRiverDelta Cities

Abstract：Based ondata from 41 cities in theYangtze River Delta region from 2O12 to 2022thisessayconstructs a regionalmodernization indicatorsystemencompasing fivedimensions—economicdevelopment，scienceandeducation， openness andsharing，ecological and environmental protection，and public governance—to empirically examine he impactof scientificandtechnological innovationonregionalmodernization.Theresultsindicate that increased funding andpersonnelallocationforscientificandtechnologicalinnovationcontributetohigherlevelsofregionalmodernization. Mechanismanalysisreveals thatsuchinnovation promotesregional modernization byfacilitating industrial structure upgrading.Heterogeneityanalysisdemonstrates thatscientificand technological innovationsignificantlyenhancesall regional modernization indicatorsexceptecologicaland environmental protection.Peripheral cities benefit more from suchinovationthancentral cities.Furtheranalysisindicates thattheimpactofscientificandtechnologicalinnovationon regional modernization is subject toa threshold efect basedon thenumberof scientificand technological innovation personnel.Whilesuch impact demonstrates a dynamic cumulative efect in termsoffunding，itmanifestsonlyasan immediate effect in terms of personnel.
