Abstract： This articlereviewed the progress of tea breeding studies during the 14th Five-Year Plan period，focusing on areas such as tea plant genomics，the elucidation of regulatory mechanisms underlying key genetic traits，the breeding of new cultivars，variety registration，and the protection of plant variety rights.It alsoanalyzed the major botlenecks currently hindering the genetic improvement in tea plants and discussed the development trends and key research priorities for tea plant genetic breeding during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
