Title: The Global Bestseller Market and the Breakthrough of Works from Non-English Speaking Countries

Abstract: The contemporary bestseller market is fundamentally shaped by the forces of globalization and the evolution of digital media. Within this framework, non-English literature encounters structural challenges rooted in a “West-centric” narrative paradigm and the dominance of English as a form of cultural capital. Overcoming these barriers requires effective cultural translation and strategic utilization of genre-based literary forms. The global dissemination of Chinese science fiction illustrates how genre writing—by embedding social commentary within technological allegories—can create narratives accessible to an international readership. The emergence of artificial intelligence is catalyzing dual transformations: while its data-driven training processes risk reinforcing homogenization in cultural production, AI simultaneously enables real-time translation and targeted dissemination of marginalized voices, thus reshaping the criteria for defining bestsellers and altering audience reception patterns. Ultimately, the global advancement of non-English literature transcends mere translation or market access; it necessitates the preservation of cultural subjectivity and the proactive development of a globally resonant narrative system, enabling meaningful participation in an increasingly diverse yet intensely competitive literary marketplace.
