Title: Forum on “Tradition and Innovation in Foreign Literature Studies in the New Era”
Abstract: In the new era, foreign literature studies face the dual challenges of upholding tradition and embracing innovation to better respond to the demands of the times. To advance the transformation and discourse reconstruction of foreign literature studies in the new era, this journal has invited five scholars to engage in an in-depth discussion around this central theme. Drawing upon their respective research expertise, the contributors approach the subject from different perspectives, not only emphasizing the dialectical unity of upholding tradition and embracing innovation, but also pointing out that foreign literature studies must be guided by Marxist literary and artistic theory, must adhere to cultural confidence and cultural consciousness, and must continuously innovate research methodologies — all in service of building China’s autonomous academic discourse system and contributing to the “modernization of the human being.”
Key words: the New Era; foreign literature studies; tradition; innovation; “human modernization”
