Title： A Study of the Translators’Behaviors in the Translation of Science During the Republic of China （1915-1949）
Abstract： Science （1915-1949） was a comprehensive scientific journal （monthly） with great influence in China during the Republic of China period. The translators of Science magazine， serving as both scientists and translators，widely translated and introduced the world's latest scientific knowledge at the time， standardized and unified scientific terminology， thereby promoting the nation’s scientific enlightenment and awakening. This study， guided by the theory of Translator Behavior Criticism， conducts an objective and comprehensive exploration of the behaviors of the Science translators from two levels of intratranslation and extratranslation. The findings indicate that this group adhered to the translation principle of“seeking truth while being practical”， translated and introduced cutting-edge global scientific knowledge to address the practical needs of China's scientific undertakings and industrial development， thereby contributing to national rejuvenation and prosperity. The translation of this group not only promoted the widespread dissemination of Western scientific knowledge，but also made significant contributions to the improvement of domestic scientific terminology system and the formation of modern disciplinary knowledge system， thereby accelerating the process of scientific modernization in China.
