Research on welding repair process of bainitic alloy steel turnouts

Abstract: Inorder to address thecrack issues in the straight switch rail seatofbainitic steel railway turnouts for trams,arepair welding process for bainitic alloy steel turnouts was conducted using bainitic alloy stel blanks of the same material and specialized welding electrodes for alloy steel combined frog point rails (JD937). The results showed that after the repair welding process,the bonding between the base metal and the weld,as wellas betwee weld layers, was satisfactory.The microstructure of the base metal was primarily bainitic,while the weld microstructure consisted mainly of bainite and retained austenite.The hardnessof theweld matched well with that ofthe base metal,with auniformhardness distributionacross the welded joint.The impact toughness of the weld met the required service standards.Corresponding solutions were proposed for defects observed in the repair-welded specimens and technical isues encountered during field operations.This study provides valuable insights for both research and engineering applications of repair welding processes for bainitic alloy steel turnouts.
