Abstract:【Objective】This studyexplores heavy metalcontamination characteristicsand sources in theurbansoil of Haidong City,located at the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau,focusing on the topsoil (O-2cm).【Method】 Soil samples from Haidong Citywere analyzed for eight keyheavymetalelements(Cd,Cr,Cu,Mn,Ni,Pb,Feand Zn ).The pollution status of these metals was assessed using the single-factor pollution index ( Pi )method and the geoaccumulation index( Igeo )approach. Correlation and cluster analyses were performed to determine the sources of heavy metal contamination.【Result】Based on Pi and Igeo indices,seven of the eight heavy metals (excluding Cr) showed varying degreesof enrichmentin Haidong's topsoil.Correlationandcluster analysesrevealed thatCr,Ni,Mn,Feand Cu were primarily atributed to natural processes such as soil formation and weathering,whereas Cd,Pband Zn were mainlylinked totrafic-relatedpolution.【Conclusion】InHaidongCity,theprimarysourcesofhavymetalpollutionin soilarenatural processes and transportation.For theeastern margin of theQinghai-Xizang Plateau,significant contributors includenatural sources,transportation,and miningactivities.Variationsinpolutionlevelsand sourcesare influenced by the differing economic structures of cities.
