Summary of the best evidence for malignant fungating wounds odor management

Abstract Objective:To retrieve,evaluate,and summarize the evidence on malignant fungating wounds odor management at home and abroad,and to provide a basis for the formulation of scientific odor management programs for malignant fungating wounds patients.Methods:Based on the evidence-based "6S" model,the relevant clinical decisions,guidelines,evidence summaries,systematic reviews,Meta-analyses,and expert consensus in China and abroad were retrieved from top to bottom.The search period was from January 1,2020,to April 30,2024.Two researchers who had received systematic evidence-based training independently completed the literature search and screening and conducted quality evaluation and evidence extraction.Results:A total of 12 articles were included,including 2 clinical decisions,2 guidelines,4 evidence summaries,3 systematic reviews,and 1 expert consensus.A total of 28 pieces of evidence were summarized from 6 aspects:management goals,odor assessment,odor management,nutritional support,multidisciplinary collaboration,and palliative care.Conclusions:The best evidence summarized for malignant fungating wounds odor management is scientific and practical,which can provide an evidence-based basis for the clinical practice of malignant fungating wounds odor management.
