Summary of evidence on prevention and management of peripheral venous drug extravasation in children

Abstract Objective：To search，evaluate，and summarize evidence on the prevention and management of peripheral venous drug extravasation in children at home and abroad，providing a reference path for clinical healthcare professionals to prevent and manage peripheral venous drug extravasation in children.Methods：A systematic search was conducted on academic websites and databases such as UpToDate，Yimaitong，CBM，CNKI，WanFang Database，Agency for Health Care Research and Quality，Infusion Nursing Society，the Cochrane Library，PubMed，EMbase，Web of Science for evidence on the prevention and management of peripheral venous drug extravasation in children.The retrieval time was from January，2013 to December，2022.Two researchers conducted literature quality evaluation and evidence extraction.Results：A total of 14 articles were included，including 1 guideline，6 systematic evaluations，1 clinical decision-making，4 randomized controlled trials，1 quasi experimental study，and 1 descriptive study.Then summarized 18 best evidence from 5 aspects：incidence rate，risk assessment，intravenous treatment management，extravasation management，and organizational standardization.Conclusion：The best evidence for peripheral venous drug extravasation in children has been summarized.In the process of evidence conversion，full consideration should be given to the actual clinical situation in China，and personalized prevention and management plans for peripheral venous drug extravasation should be developed based on the age and needs of children.
