Sequential enteral nutrition support on nutritional status and rehabilitation effect of stroke patients:a Meta-analysis

Abstract Objective:To systematic evaluation the impact of sequential enteral nutrition support on the nutritional status and rehabilitation outcomes of stroke patients.Methods:Randomized controlled trials on sequential enteral nutrition support for stroke patients were retrieved from Chinese and English databases such as CNKI,VIP,CBM,WanFang Database,PubMed,Web of Science,the Cochrane Library,EMbase.RevMan 5.3 was used to conduct a Meta-analysis of literature that met the criteria.Results:A total of 12 articles were included,including 1 103 stroke patients.The Meta-analysis results showed that sequential enteral nutrition support can improve patients′ levels of prealbumin(MD=35.28,95%CI 15.30-55.27,P<0.005),serum albumin(MD=6.87,95% CI 6.52-7.23,P<0.000 1),and hemoglobin(MD=8.91,95%CI 8.34-9.48,P<0.000 01);reduce the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale(NIHSS) score(MD=―2.75,95%CI ―4.53-―0.97,P=0.002);reduce the incidence of lung infections(RR=0.50,95%CI 0.34-0.73,P=0.000 3),intestinal infections(RR=0.43,95%CI 0.26-0.72,P=0.001),urinary tract infections (RR=0.43,95%CI 0.24-0.77,P=0.005),and gastrointestinal complications(RR=0.42,95%CI 0.31-0.57,P<0.0 001).Conclusion:Current evidence shows that compared to conventional nutritional support,sequential nutritional support can increase the nutritional level,improve immune function,and reduce complications in stroke patients.
