Abstract: A novel type of metastable β -Ti alloy, Ti-10Mo-6Zr-4Sn-3Nb,has been developed, which could be used as orthodontic brackets and guide wires. The efects of solution temperature (790-830∘C) (2 on mechanical properties and microstructural organization of the alloy were investigated. The results show that after solid-solution,the grain size of the alloy increases compared to that of the one before solid-solution. A trace amount of a′′ martensite phase exits in the alloy,which has little effect on the mechanical properties. The solid-solution strengthening efect and the presence of large angle grain boundaries efectively hinder the movement of dislocations, thereby improving the strength of the alloy. After solid-solution at 820∘C , the alloy exhibits the optimal mechanical properties, the yield strength is up to 1020MPa , and the elongation after fracture is 19.7%
