Abstract:To investigate the impact of occupant size differencesand mutual interactions on the far-side occupant insidepolecolisions involving electric vehicles, thisstudyuseda 5th percentile femaleas the nearside occupantand a 5Oth percentile male as thefar-side occupant, and constructed various simulation scenarios byaltering the colisionangleand position.Alinearfiting method was employed to numericallyanalyze the kinematic responses and head and neck injuries of the far-side occupant under different colision conditions. The results show that with thecolisionangle increasing, the lateral displacement of the far-side occupant increases, therestraining effectof theseatbelt weakens, and theoccupant is more likely tocolidewith the near-sideoccupant or themselves. When the collisionangleexceeds the predicted AlS injuryrisk surpasses 50% .The Head Injury Criteria (HIP) values indicate that, inallcases, the head absorbsasignificant amount of energy, suggestinga high riskofAlS traumatic brain injury for the far-side occupant.Neck anterior longitudinal ligament (ALL)injuries predominantlyoccur in high-anglecolisionsandarecorrelatedwith the collisionangle.Aditionally, theposterior longitudinalligament (PLL),capsularligament (CL)and interspinous ligament (ISL) showa significant risk of neck ligament injuries inalmost all cases.
