Applicability of Soil Erosion Model Under Secondary Rainstorm in XiaoliRiverBasin

Abstract:[Purposes] This study explores the applicability of the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) in Xiaoli River Basin under rainstorm conditions and reveal the distribution of regional soil erosion modulus intensity,so as to provide a scientific basis for comprehensive control of soil and water loss in Loess hilly region.[Methods] Taking the rainstorm event on July 26,2O17 in Zizhou county,Shaanxi Province as a case study,the applicability of the Universal Soil Loss Equation in this region was verified by intergrating the monitoring data of rainfall and sediment yield in Xiaoli River Basin along with the observation data of sediment deposition in Muhuluba Dam.[Findings] During the "7.26" rainstorm,the total amount of erosion,sediment yield,and sediment deposition at Menhulu Dam were 7.25 million t,16,500 t,11,100 t,andO.89 milion t,respectively.USLE model estimates that theerosion and sedimentyield of Xiaoli River basin and Muhuluba dam-controlled small watershed is 6.39 million t,14,4OO t12,800 t 0.90 million t. The relative errors are 11.9% , 13.9% , 15.3% and 1.12% respectively,indicating high simulation accuracy.[Conclusions] USLE model is suitable for estimating sediment yield of small watershed inLoesshilly region under heavy rainstorm conditions.
