L-Band Radar Failure Solution for Cold Climate

Abstract:[Purpsoes]By analyzing the failures of L-band radar under cold conditions,combined with its detection principle and the working mechanism of different componentsand transmission lines,the causes offailuresareidentified,which help theoperational staff utilize the historical failurerecords to deal with the common problems quickly,improve the quality of detection,and provide valuable references for the staff the related fields.[Methods] Systematically document allfailure cases since the adoption of L-band radar in Qiqihar radiosonde station,analyze the failure locations,diffrentiate between indoor and outdoor factors,and summarize the causes of faults that frequently occur in long-term operation along with its corresponding maintenance strategies, especially during cold seasons.[Findings] Under cold climate conditions,the risk of failure of radar systems tends to increase.For example,the low temperature leads to the degradation in the performance of the internal electronic components,as well as the brittleness of the transmission line insulation material which triggers problems such as fractures or poor contact.[Conclusions]To address issues encountered byL-band radar in the cold climate conditions, such as the switch tube housing corrosion and loosening,transmission line insulation material embrittlement and other problems,a series of solutions are proposed.These include strengthening daily inspection and maintenance,timely overhaul of transmission lines and exposed components,and emphasizing the maintenance of radome.
