Reliability and validity testing of Chinese version of the Salmon's item List

Abstract  Objective：To translate the German version of the Salmon's item List（SIL⁃Ger）into Chinese，and evaluate its reliability and validity，which aims to provide our country with an effective tool to more easily measure the maternal experience of childbirth.Methods：In pursuant to the Brislin model，the SIL⁃Ger was translated，back⁃translated，cross⁃cultural adaptation and pre⁃test to form a Chinese version.The Chinese version of the Salmon's item list（SIL⁃Chn） instrument was tested for reliability and validity using a convenience sample of 636 mothers in Hangzhou who were 1 to 3 days postpartum.Results：Exploratory factor analysis extracted 4 common factors with a cumulative variance contribution of 68.980%.The SIL⁃Chn consisted of 4 dimensions and 20 entries.The content validity was 0.96 at the scale level and 0.80～1.00 at the item level.The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the total scale was 0.811，and the Cronbach's alpha coefficients for the dimensions ranged from 0.779 to 0.903.The re-test reliability of the total scale was 0.879.Conclusion：SIL⁃Chn has good reliability and validity.It can be used as an assessment tool for the maternal experience of childbirth in the our country.
