Psychosocial adaptation among convalescent ischemic stroke patients：a latent profile analysis

Abstract  Objective：To explore the potential categories and characteristics of psychosocial adaptation in convalescent ischemic stroke patients and analyze the influencing factors.Methods：A total of 306 convalescent ischemic stroke patients from a general hospital in Shanghai were enrolled. A general data questionnaire， self-report psychosocial adjustment to illness scale， the symptom experience PRO scale and medical coping modes questionnaire were utilized as the investigating tools. Latent profile analysis was used to explore the potential categories of psychosocial adaptation. Disordered multinomial logistic regression analysis was used to identify the factors associated with different categories.Results：Convalescent ischemic stroke patients' psychosocial adaptation could be classified into 3 categories， defined as psychosocial adaptation group with harmonious family communication and emotion（25.5%），moderate psychosocial adaptation group（43.5%） and low psychosocial adaptation group with limited work ability and social participation（31.0%）.Logistic regression analysis showed that age，occupational status， symptom burden and medical coping style were the influencing factors of the potential categories of psychosocial adaptation（P<0.05）.Conclusion：Psychosocial adaptation in convalescent ischemic stroke patients has significantly different classification characteristics.To promote the psychosocial adaptation of these patients， medical staff should pay more attention to those in low psychosocial adaptation group with limited work ability and social participation，reduce their symptom burden， and guide them to transform the coping style of avoidance and submission into a positive way of facing.
