Dynamic changes of financial toxicity and care burden of young brain tumor spouse caregivers:a longitudinal study
Abstract Objective:To explore the dynamic changes of financial toxicity and care burden of young brain tumor spousal caregivers within six months after surgery, and analyze the predictive relationship between them. Methods:Based on the convenient sampling method, 216 spousal caregivers of young patients with brain tumor were followed up at 14 days, 3 months and 6 months after surgery with the general data questionnaire,Comprehensive Scores for Financial Toxicity based on the Patient⁃Reported Outcome Measures(COST⁃PROM), and the Caregiver Burden Scale. Results:Within 6 months after operation, the care burden of young spouse caregivers showed a downward trend(P<0.01),and the financial toxicity showed a trend of rising first and then maintaining(P<0.05). The cross⁃lagged model showed that the financial toxicity of 14 days after operation could affected the care burden of 3 months after operation (P<0.01), and the financial toxicity of 3 months after operation could also affected the care burden of 6 months after operation (P<0.01).Conclusion:The financial toxicity and care burden of spousal caregivers of young patients with brain tumors shows dynamic changes within 6 months after surgery, and the financial toxicity can affect the subsequent care burden.Medical staff should pay attention to the level of financial toxicity of spousal caregivers, timely implement psychological counseling and intervention, reduce the psychological distress of financial toxicity and care burden of the spousal caregivers.
