Abstract  Objective：To define the concept of loneliness in the elderly by using Rodgers evolutionary concept analysis.Methods：A systematic research was conducted on CNKI，WanFang Database，VIP，PubMed，Web of Science and ScienceDirect Databases，and references were screened according to inclusion and exclusion criteria.Based on the Rodgers evolutionary concept analysis，the concept of loneliness in the elderly was analyzed from six aspects：concept evolution，related concepts，concept attribute，antecedent variables，consequences and typical cases.Results：A total of 49 literature were included，including 6 Chinese literature and 43 English literature.Concept attributes include three aspects：lack of intimate relationship，social isolation and self⁃alienation.The antecedents of loneliness in the elderly were sociodemographic factors，physiological factors，psychological factors，social support and cultural differences.The main consequences were the decline of physical health， mental health and cognitive function.Conclusion：This study clarified the concept of loneliness in the elderly，in order to provide reference for future studies on loneliness in the elderly，and to provide ideas for the development of assessment tools and theoretical models for loneliness in the elderly.
