Abstract： Part of the Yongle Canon passed down to this day was cut upon the decree of Emperor Qianlong，into which previous scholars have made preliminary explorations. However， there is still no consensus in the academic community on the parts that underwent cutting，and there is even less discussion on the time，purpose and quantity of cutting. In the study，the doubleevidencemethod wasadoptedand archival literature materials were utilized so as to systematically sort out four ways of pages cutting of the Yongle Canon. It concludes that the cutting started before March 1773 and it is estimated that more than 17，0oo pages were cut，mainly for the purpose ofimitating famous paper from various dynasties.
