Practice of Satellite Image Monitoring of Natural Protected Area in Huzhou City

Abstract： Due to their superior geographical conditions and scenic resources，natural protected areas have consistently been afected by human activities such as project development，cultural tourism，local resident construction，and various cultivation and breeding activities，making their protection and management particularly challenging. This paper takes the satelite image monitoring adopted in the management of natural protected areas in Huzhou City as an example to elaborate on its organizational process，analyze the quantity and types of ilegal land patches identified since 2O21，and introduce the on-site verification of these patches，the investigation and rectification of problematic patches，and the process of closing cases. The results indicate that satelite image monitoring，as a modern management tool，can enable“early detection，early investigation，and early prevention”since its introduction in natural protected area management.This makes the enforcement of laws and regulations on natural protected areas shift from “ passive following-up” to“active investigation”，significantly enhancing the overall regulatory capacity. This is of positive and practical significance for maintaining the area and functions of natural protected areas in the city. On this basis，the recommendations are proposed to improve the institutions for beter managing natural protected areas，make the boundary of natural protected areas properly demarcated， appropriately addresshistorical issues， implement ecological compensation，and strengthenthe management based on planning，so as to provide invaluable insights into the protection and management of natural protected areas.
