Abstract:Depression is often accompanied by somatic symptoms such as body pain, limited mobility, and insomnia.Chinese medicine believes thatthesesymptomsare mainly related to the abnormal metabolismof the liver, spleen, andother visceral organs, aswell as the stagnationofqiand blood.Inrecentyears, medical practitioners have foundthattherelationship between muscleandblood(circulation)insuperficial needle medicine is highlycorrelated withthe Chinese medicine theory ofqi and blood, and thus proposed the "new theoryofqi and blood."The"new theory ofqiand blood"suggests that qi in Chinese medicine is similarto muscle movement and function in the human body, while blood issimilartothe movementof bloodcirculation, andtherelationshipbetweenqiand bloodisanalogous to therelationship between muscle and blood circulation. In clinical practice, itis believed thatthe symptoms of qi stagnation and blood stasis, which arecommonlyseen in patients with somatic symptoms of depresion, canbe treated by relaxing muscles and improving blood circulation with superficial needle therapy.
