The Development and Application of an Automated Tooling Design System for SeriesProducts Based on NX Open API

Abstract : In this paper,an automatic tooling design system for series products is developed on the NX8.5 platform,basedon NX Open APIand implemented through Visual Studio 2010 and UIStyler.First of all, the typical tooling is designed fordifferent parts of series products,and the dimensionsand collsionavoidance dimensions ofthe partsare takenas the model-drieven parameters.Next, UIStyler is used to design a dialog box to call the tooling and fill in parameters, and C++ templates are generated.Finally, Visual Studio 2O10 is used to writea program to read and rewrite the typical tooling model parameters,and then drive the typical tooling model to generate the tooling model of new parts byrewriting the parameters.Since the tooling is usually an assembly,it is necessarytosetthedriving parameters in the assembly model,adoptthe top-down tooling design method,anduse the WAVE function in NX to realize the driving of each tooling part.The application indicates thatthesystem can greatly improve the eficiency of tooling design and reduce the problems caused by personnel diffrences in tooling design.For tooling parts that arenotsensitive to the sizechange of product parts,fixed design can simplify the design and manufacturing process of dedicated tooling parts,thereby enabling the standardization of certain tooling parts.
