Abstract: Traditional food packaging materials have been unable to meet the requirements of modern consumers for food preservation. Plant essential oil antibacterial composite film is safe and harmless, and has good antibacterial properties and degradability, playing an essential role in food packaging. In this paper,the research progress on classification,antibacterial mechanism and bacteriostatic effect of plant essential oils on foodborne bacteria, film-forming substrate materials, preparation processes of film,and the application of plant essential oil antibacterial composite film in food packaging is reviewed. Finally,thechallenges faced in the current research on plant essential oil antibacterial composite filmas well as the future development directions and application prespects are pointed out.
