ABSTRACTFucoxanthin isapigment foundinplantsandanimalssuchasalgae,marineplanktonandaquaticshelfish,and holdssignificantpotentialfordevelopmentinthepharmaceuticalfieldThiseviewintroducestheanti-inflmmatoryantioidant, anticancer,antiobsityandotherpharmacologicaleectsoffucoxanthinaswellasrecentadvancesindrugdesignsearchIt wasfoundthatfucoxanthincanexertanti-inflammatoryandantioxidantefectsthroughmechanismssuchasactivatingAMPactivatedproteinkinaserelatedsignalingpathways,egulatingteexpresioofiflammatoryfactors,alteringmicrobialsablty therebyimprovingconditionssuchasmetabolicassociatedfattyliverdiseaseandcolitis.Itcanexertselectiveantitumorefects throughmuti-targetsynergisticactions;anditwasalsofoundthatitcanexertantiobesityefectsbyregulatingtheintestinal microbiota.Itscharacteristicfunctionalgroups(suchashydroxylandepoxygroups)possesstargetspecificityandeversible inhibitoryproperties,makingitasuitabletemplateforguiding thedesignanddevelopmentofnoveldrugs,therebyproviding new insights for breaking through the limitations of traditional drug design.
