Efficacy and safety of Chinese medicine fumigation in rheumatoid arthritis：a Meta-analysis

Abstract Objective：To evaluate the efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine fumigation in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.Methods：The relevant studies of traditional Chinese medicine fumigation in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis were retrieved from CNKI，CBM，WanFang Database，VIP，PubMed，Web of Science，the Cochrane Library，EMbase and CINAHL.The search period was from the establishment of the database to May 30，2024.RevMan 5.4.1 software was used for Meta-analysis.Results：A total of 18 studies were included，involving 1 540 patients.The results of Meta-analysis showed that compared with the control group，traditional Chinese medicine fumigation could improve the total effective rate of patients（OR=2.94，95%CI 2.10-4.12，P<0.000 01），reduce the levels of VAS score（MD=-1.02，95%CI -1.14--0.90，P<0.000 01），ESR（MD=-11.38，95%CI -12.26--10.49，P<0.000 01），CRP（MD=-6.46，95%CI -7.84--5.07，P<0.000 01） and RF（MD=-39.22，95%CI -57.28--21.16，P<0.000 01），reduce the number of joint swelling（MD=-1.28，95%CI -1.38--1.18，P<0.000 01），joint tenderness（MD=-1.74，95%CI -1.94--1.53，P<0.000 01） and morning stiffness of patients（MD=-10.32，95%CI -11.52--9.12，P<0.000 01）.There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups（OR=1.21，95%CI 0.66-2.20，P=0.54）.Conclusion：The existing evidence shows that traditional Chinese medicine fumigation can improve the clinical efficacy of patients with rheumatoid arthritis，and the safety is good.Due to the limited number and quality of included studies，the above conclusions need to be verified by more high-quality studies.
