Research on Deacidification Protection for Modern Paper Document: in the Case ofTsinghua Weekly During Republic of China in Tsinghua University Library

AbstractMost of the modern documents in China exist in paper form,and most of them are mechanical paper. Theacidification degree is particularly serious,so it is in urgent need of rescue deacidification protection.This paper introduces the deacidification protection of Tsinghua Weekly,an important document in the library of Tsinghua University,and elaborates the research work before deacidificationand the choice of deacidification technology.The deacidification of Tsinghua Weekly,a document of the Republic of China,was carried out bythe technique of infiltration moistening and deacidification.After deacidification,the pH value reached the quality requirements and the long-term stabilitywas obtained.There is noobvious effect on the appearance color,flatness and hand felof the physicalcarrier,nordoes itcause writing dyeing,fading and discoloration.The mechanical properties of thered file remain unchanged afterdeacidification bythe folding test before and after accelerated agingbydampnessand heat.This technologicaldeacidification laid a successful foundation for thelater formation of standard deacidification quality requirements and deacidification effect evaluation methods for Republic of China documents.
