Abstract: To address the difficulty in identifying flow structures caused by the high-dimensional characteristics of the flow field around tandem seal-vibrissa-shaped cylinders at high Reynolds numbers,a reduced-order modeling approach combining spectral proper orthogonal decomposition (SPOD)and cluster-based reduced-order modeling(CROM) is employed for reduced-order analysis of the wake flow field through numerical simulations. Modal decomposition and flow field reconstruction are performed to obtain simplified flow fields and identify dominant flow features,with comparisons made against flow fields around tandem circular cylinders and tandem elliptical cylinders of identical characteristic lengths. Results demonstrate that both tandem circular and elliptical cylinder wakes exhibit high-energy Kármán vortex street coherent structures that dominate wake development and transport. In contrast, the tandem seal-vibrissashaped cylinders exhibit anti-phase vortex shedding structures formed on the upper and lower saddle surfaces of each cylinder. No large-scale coherent structures emerge in the wakes of upstream and downstream cylinders,and modal decomposition reveals no dominant high-energy coherent structures. The vortex shedding appears irregular,with weakened vortex fluctuation intensity and enhanced wake stability. Unlike the unidirectional circulation loop observed in tandem circular cylinders,the flow field around tandem seal-vibrissa-shaped cylinders develops secondary loops diverging from the primary circulation. The vortex shedding between upstream and downstream cylinders undergoes in-phase and anti-phase transitions, effectively suppressing wake oscilations. These findings provide insights for engineering applications of tandem sealvibrissa-shaped cylinders in aerodynamic drag reduction and noise control.
