Application of Plasma-Activated Water in the Inactivation of Malassezia furfur

Abstract: To address the limitations of existing methods for inactivating Malassezia furfur,such as poor universality,low compliance,adverse reactions,and tendency to induce drug resistance,the application of plasma-activated water (PAW) for its inactivation is explored. Different types of PAW are prepared using low-temperature plasma technology,and the variations in their physicochemical properties are investigated. Changes in the viability of Malassezia furfur before and after inactivation are analyzed based on the colony counting method. The inactivation mechanism is analyzed by detecting DNA and protein leakage,extracellular alkaline phosphatase (AKP) activity,and the content of UV-absorbing substances. The results indicate that PAW contains a large number of reactive species,including H+ , H2O2 , NO2- , NO3- ,etc. Significant inactivation of Malassezia furfur is achieved when the gas flow rate is 5L⋅min-1 and the activation time is 25min , reducing the colony count to 100.98CFU⋅mL-1 . The inactivation leads to increased leakage of DNA and proteins,as well as elevated levels of extracellular AKP and UV-absorbing substances. This study provides theoretical support for the application of PAW inpreventing and controlling Malassezia furfur.
