Study on Rapid Gasification Characteristics of Refuse-Derived Fuel

Abstract: To address the issue of slow heating rates in current refuse-derived fuel (RDF) gasification experiments,the rapid gasification characteristics of RDF under three atmospheres (oxygen, nitrogen,and steam) at five temperature points( 500-900∘C )are investigated. Results show that O2 exhibits strong oxidizing properties,leading to significant CO2 production and the lowest gas generation potential. Under CO2 atmosphere, the Boudouard reaction dominates, yielding considerable syngas but limited by its single reaction pathway. In contrast,the steam atmosphere enables high gas production rates through multiple synergistic mechanisms,achieving the best gasification performance with a total gas yield of 16.7mmol⋅g-1 ,far exceeding that of O2 and CO2 ,demonstrating the superiority of steam in rapid RDF gasification. As the temperature increases, the tar components from gasification exhibit a forward shift in composition. Under O2 atmosphere, solid residues enrich oxygen-containing functional groups,and aromatization is promoted, reducing coke condensation. In the steam atmosphere, solid residues contain heterocyclic structures, and high temperatures inhibit recombination,leading to an increased proportion of light hydrocarbons.
