Abstract:Inordertoexploresuitablepruningandfruit-seting methodsforfacilitygrownmelons,therebyfurtherenhancingplant growthandimproving theyieldandqualityofmarketablefruits,thisstudyemployedthin-skinnedmelonvarieties Tianmei 55and Huale,andthick-skinnedmelonvarieties Tianxiang1andMeiwang6asexperimental materials.Bycomparing twopruning reatments ofsinglevinepruningwithsinglepruninganddoublepruningtoexplorethefectsotegrowthdynamics,floweringtime,fruityield, appearance,and intermalqualityof melons.Theexperimentalresultsrevealeddistinct efectsofthetwo treatmentsonthin skinned andthick-skinnedmelons.Forthick-skinedmelons,theon-timepinchingtreatmentresultedinstrongerplantgrowth,shorterlater al fruit-bearing branches,flowering time advanced by 1-2 days,fruit maturity period advanced by 2-3 days,and a 15%-16% increaseinfruityieldcomparedtothetwo-timepinchingtreatment.Forthin-skinnedmelons,thetwo-timepinching treatmentledtoa slightdecreaseinstemdiameterbutasigniicantimprovementinupwardelongationspeed,asligtincreaseinthelengthoflateral fruit-bearingbranches,floweringtimeadvancedbydays,fruitaturityperiodadvancedbydayndnosignificantdierecein fruit yield.Inermsoffruitqualityneithertreatmenthadasgnificantimpactonthefruitshapeindexorcentralsugarcontentofthe four melonvarieties.Inconclusion,thestudysuggeststhatthick-skinedmelonsaremoresuitableforsingle-vinepruningwithonetimepinching (frtigorateralvins),ichromotesbstplatgrowthceasfritield,ndsufitality.Thin-skinedmelonsaremoresuitableforsingle-vinepruningwithtwo-timepinching(fruit-setingonsecondarylateralvines), whichprootesadveotceleatesgadesfoegatdessuselielygeld and allows for earlier harvest and market availability.
