Continuous Reynolds number effect analysis of the influence of vortex generator on the aerodynamic performance of airfoil

Abstract:Inordertoefectivelyimprove thepower generation eficiencyoflargewind turbines,studies ontheoptimization measures for theaerodynamicperformanceofwindturbineairfoilswereconducted.Windtunnelexperiments wereconductedto systematicallinvestigate the Reynolds number efectsontheaerodynamic performanceoptimizationof wind turbineairfoils with vortex generators inacontinuous high Reynolds number range.The results indicate thatas theReynolds number increases,theairfoiliftcoeficientexhibitsasignificantupward trend.TheReynoldsnumbereffectisevidentregardlessof whethervortex generatorsare installedornot.Thepositioning of the vortex generators significantlyafects theirReynolds number effect on aerodynamic performance optimization. When the vortex generators are placed within the range of 0.1c to 0.2c fromtheleadingedgeoftheairfoil,theimprovementintheliftcoeficientissignificantlybeterthanwhentheyareplaced within the range of 0.3c to 0,4c from the leading edge. This improvement increases gradually with the increase of Reynolds number,butthe increasing trendisnot linear.When the vortex generator is placed within therange of O.3c to 0.4c fromtheleading edge,the lift coefcient improvement decreaseswith the increase of Reynolds number,and there existsacitical Reynoldsnumber.Basedon this,a formulais derivedtorepresentthevortexgenerator'sefectonairfoil aerodynamicperformance optimizationunder diferent Reynolds numberconditions,whichcanprovidereferenceforengineering purposes.
