Optimization method for noise source impedance extraction considering sensitivity of insertion loss method

Abstract:To achieve the optimized design of electromagnetic interference (EMI) filters, it is necessary to consider the impact of noise source impedance. The insertion loss method was used to extract noise source impedance by connecting an inductor in series or a capacitor in parallel between the equipment under test(EUT)and the line impedance stabilization network(LISN).Due to limitations in instrument accuracy,the insertion loss test inevitably introduces errors,leading to inaccurate extraction results.To address this issue,the expressons for the magnitude and phase of noise source impedance were derived. Based on these expressions,the sensitivity of the noise attenuation error to the magnitude and phase of the noise source impedance was introduced. The impact of the property and magnitude of noise source impedance on the extraction accuracy was analyzed. Taking the series method to extract high capacitive noise source impedance as an example,the impact of the noise attenuation on the extraction accuracy was analyzed.The requirements for improving the extraction accuracy and an optimization method for the insertion loss method were proposed. Simulation and experimental results validate corrctness of the research

findings.
