A newly recorded species of Aspidistra （Asparagaceae） from China： Aspidistra xuansonensis var. violiflora

Abstract：Aspidistra xuansonensis var.violiflora is reported here asanewlyrecordedtaxaforthefirsttimein China from the karstregionofYunnanProvince.Itissimilar toA.saxicolaY.Wan，butitcanbedistinguishedbyitsstamens inserted at the lower part of perigone tube，variable stigma shape，white upper surface，and irrgular wavy at margins.A. xuansonensis var.violifloraand A.xuansonensis var.xuansonensis were previously knownonly from the Xuan

Son National Park，Phu Tho Province，Vietnam.Recently，we found A . xuansonensisvar. violiflora in Hekou Yao Autonomous County，Yunnan Province，China.Thenew discovery enriches the diversity for the genus Aspidistra in China，whichhassome biogeographical significance forthestudyof Aspidistra in Sino-Vietnamese border areas，and also provides potential resources forthe development of this genus in landscaping and horticulture.Detailed characteristic descriptions，pollen morphologyandcolor plates are provided for identification，and the changes in flowercolorofthe genus Aspidistra were discussed.
