Effects of Water Deficit on the Growth Physiology and Water Use Efficiency of Tomatoes Grown in Facility Substrates

Abstract:This studyinvestigatedtheefectofwaterdeficitongrowth physiologyandwateruseeficiencyof tomatoesunder soilesssubstrateulivation,imingtoprovideatheoreticalbasisforhighieldndighqualityintomatoproduction.Usigtoato varietiesHairyowderndasxpimntalateals,4wateficitadientseetablishd,ioalgaiild ( 80 % normal irrigation), moderate ( 60 % normal irrigation) and severe water deficit( 40 % normal irrigation), effects on plant height, stemdiameter,leafarea,photosytheticparameters,yieldperplant,umberoffruitperplant,fruitweightperplantandwateruse eficiencyofenttoatoreestigatdesultsodtatstgrefaterdititesido exhibited decreases in plant height,stem thicknessand leaf area,the net photosyntheticrate( P n ),thetranspirationrate ( T r )and the stomatal conductance( G s ) weregetingsmaler,theyield showedanoverall downward trend,while wateruseefficiencygenerally increased.Mild water deficit( 80 % normal irigation) improved water use efficiency without significantly reducing yield. Compared withvariety181,hairypowder8O2showedarelativelysmaleryieldreductionandhigherwateruseeficiency,makingitmore suitable for cultivation under water-deficit conditions.
