Abstract  Objective：To translate the 16⁃item of European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire（HLS⁃EU⁃Q16） into Chinese，and to test its reliability and validity.Methods：According to the Brislin translation principle，the Chinese version of HLS⁃EU⁃Q16 was formed.A total of 192 respondents were selected for the questionnaire survey to test its reliability and validity.Results：The Chinese version of HLS⁃EU⁃Q16 included 3 dimensions and 16 items.The item⁃level content validity index（I⁃CVI） were 1.000，and the scale⁃level content validity index（S⁃CVI） was 1.000.The Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.923，and the retest reliability was 0.918.The Pearson correlation coefficient between the score of the Chinese version of HLS⁃EU⁃Q16 and the score of the Chinese version of Brief Health Literacy Screen was 0.631.Conclusions：The Chinese version of HLS⁃EU⁃Q16 has good reliability and validity，and it can be used to measure the level of adult health literacy in China.
