Abstract The paperdiscuses theflow behaviourof thegas-slag-metalthree-phasefluid insidethe multi-lance top blown coppersmeltingfuacetooptimizethestructuraldesignandprocesscondions.Foratopblownfuaceequippedwith15lanes,the VOF multiphase flow model coupled with a standard k-ε turbulence model was used to numerically simulate the flow characteristics, phasedistribution,andphaseintefacebehaviorofthemoltenbathundertheconditionofblowingoxygen-enrichedgasathighpeed. The studyresultsshowthat themulti-lancejet-drivenmeltfuctuatesreciprocallybetwee thefeedendandflueend.Theaveragegas jet velocity is 250~400m/s ,which can penetrate the slag layer and disturb the metal phase,causing melt splashing.The splashing rangereachesdynamicequlibrumovertimeandremainsprimarilyconcentratedinthevicinityoftelances.Thedecreaseingasflow ratesignificantlyreducestheoutletvelocityoftheance,penetrationdepthofthemelt,andoverallflowvelocitysuppresgte intensityandamplitudeof melt fluctuations.Increasingthedistancebetween thelanceandthemelt surfacecanreducetheoutlet presureofthelnce,deceasethemplitudeofpresurefluctuations,andslightlyincreasethegasflowate,whichelpstoalevate local splashing.
